Excess salt is one cause of high blood pressure. Too much Sodium in our diet has been linked to many diseases. See the link below for details. When buying processed foods make sure the sodium level is less than 120mg per 100g. Unfortunately, this would eliminate most, if not all, processed foods from your diet. Eating fresh food is best so take control of what you eat and cook it yourself.
